When did you know that you wanted to be a physical therapist?

I knew I wanted to be a physical therapist after volunteering at a hospital. It was inspiring to see how changes to one’s quality of life could be made through PT and the amount of time spent with patients.

What’s your favorite song to get you motivated?

It’s hard to pick just one song, but usually I will listen to country music to get my day going.

What is the biggest challenge involved in being a PT?

The biggest challenge in being a PT is being able to disconnect from the PT world once I am done for the day. My mind is always thinking about my patient cases and what I could do to enhance their rehabilitation.

How do you like to stay active?

I love staying active by doing outdoor activities especially with my family. Hiking with my son is a plus!

What surprised you the most about the physical therapist profession?

What surprised me the most is the amount of different manual therapy techniques that can be learned outside of PT school.

Are you currently pursuing any further education/certifications?

Fascial Counterstrain and Birth Healing Specialist.

What’s your go-to breakfast?

Coffee, eggs, fruit and gluten free toast (with butter!!)

What do you wish everyone knew about physical therapy?

I wish everyone knew that physical therapy treatments encompass the whole body despite what the PT prescription says. The biggest misconception is the area of discomfort is the area of dysfunction or impairment.

What is the most important personality trait that a therapist must have?

It is very important for a PT to have great listening skills, both verbal and intuitively.

What do you do to de-stress/unwind?

Glass of wine and a great movie.

Finish this sentence: On Saturday mornings, you can usually find me… at the farmers market or making breakfast.

What is the best piece of wellness advice you’ve ever received?

Eat healthy, get lots of sleep, and stay active!
