Women’s Health Physical Therapy
Women’s Health Physical Therapy spans across age groups and life events from competing in sports to childbirth and menopause and into the golden years. Millions of women suffer from pelvic pain or pelvic floor dysfunction, however the majority of these people go untreated. Causes of pelvic floor dysfunction include infections, pregnancy and childbirth, chronic low back SI dysfunction, trauma and surgery.
We tend to over-utilize our abdominal muscles to compensate for our pelvic floor muscles. For patients suffering from incontinence, we provide minimally invasive, one-on-one treatments to help strengthen your pelvic floor muscles that are responsible for holding up the bladder and prevent leaking. At Therapydia Portland, our Women’s Health Physical Therapy services address the unique musculoskeletal problems of the pelvic region. Just like any other condition treated by PT, Women’s Health Physical Therapy can help to treat any functional limitations and also offer prevention services.

Pre- And Post-Partum Specific Treatments
A majority of pregnant women suffer from back pain. The cause of back pain is due to multiple causes such as increase hormones, poor posture, and a change in your center of gravity. During your PT treatment, your women’s health physical therapist will evaluate potential causes of your back pain to provide a custom treatment program based on your needs and goals. Your treatment may include manual therapy, postural correction and hip strengthening.
After you have a child, your pelvic floor and core muscles become very weak. Our physical therapists will work with you to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and develop a custom therapeutic exercise program to strengthen your core and surrounding muscles.
